Home Sweet Home

Knock knock! “Jasmine! Get up! You need to go!”Mom yelled.  Slowly I got out of bed and looked at the clock.  9:00.  Oh shoot! I’m going to be late for school! I thought.  Quickly, I brushed my teeth, and took a shower.  I opened my closet door.

“Mom! What should I wear?”I called.

“Just pick something out, and come down!”She replied.  I sighed.  There was nothing good for me to wear.  I checked my closet again.  Maybe there is something behind my clothes I thought.  I pushed my way through.

I gasped. At the back of my closet there was a (drum roll please) portal to the unknown! If you don’t know me, I’m always curious. So I did what most curious people would do. I stepped into the portal, and it swallowed me whole.

The next thing I knew, I was surrounded by blinding light.  Thump! I landed right on my butt.

“Wow!”I said in amazement.  There, right before me, was the most beautiful sunset I had seen my whole life.  Or was it sunrise? It was hard to tell.  The bottom of the sky was hot pink, but the top was dark blue, and sort of cloudy.  Behind me, the portal closed, but I did not notice.  I took a step forward.

“This is just crazy!”I said, when I saw my clothes at my feet. That’s when I realized that the portal was gone.  My smile faded.

“Oh no.  Oh no! What am I gonna do?!” Someone cleared their throat behind from behind me. I spun around.  It was a boy with messy black hair.  He had chocolate colored eyes, and I was sure he wasn’t standing there before.

“Oh.  H-hi. Didn’t see you there.”I stammered.  It was like he appeared out of thin air.  He smiled.

“No problem.  Do you need help with anything?”He said

“I think I’m a little lost.”

“Come with me.”He said.  “And tell me what happened.”  I felt kind of nervous, talking to a stranger, but I told him anyway.  I told him the portal in the closet, and, well, that was basically it.

“Oh,”He said, after I was done.  “You’re going to have to talk to my dad.  He’s a magic expert.  He’ll know what to do.”

“Wait. Did you say magic expert?”I asked.

“Well, Yeah,”He said as if it were obvious.  “You don’t know about it.  Do you? We need to get to dad fast. it’s getting dark.  Oh, by the way, what’s your name?” How did I forgot?  I needed to introduce myself.

“Jasmine.  What’s yours?”I asked

“Chris. Oh.  Here we are.” We were standing in front of a really wide building, that was actually glittering.  James led me inside, and the inside was even more spectacular than the outside.  It was so spectacular, that there were no words that could describe it.  Well, actually, there is one word: magical.

“Right this way,”Chris instructed.  We reached a green door, and Chris knocked.

“Come in!”Called a voice from inside.  Chris opened the door.  Inside was a middle aged man with dark black hair.  He was wearing a long white jacket and goggles that scientists wore.

“Yes, Chris?”Said the man.

“Dad, there is someone you might want to see,”Replied Chris. I stepped through the doorway, and he smiled.

“And who might you be?”

“Jasmine. Jasmine Frost.”I said. He motioned me to follow him. He opened a door, and went through. Chris stayed in the other room.

“I have been watching you Jasmine Frost,”He said. “You have entered another dimension.” I almost fainted. Chris’s father continued, “Jasmine, you summoned the portal in the closet. You got yourself here. You have magic in your blood.” I blacked out.

When my vision cleared, I could see the twinkling stars in the dark sky. Slowly I got up. I noticed I was in a soft cozy bed, in a roof free room.

“Ready for your trip home?” Chris asked. I put on a puzzled look. Then I went pale. I had magic in my blood! I summoned the portal without even knowing it.

Chris saw my puzzled face, and told me that his father was going to teach me how to summon another portal.

At the grounds of the place.

“Ready?”Asked Chris’s father. I nodded. He told me to step in the circle he drew with spray paint.

“Focus. Focus really hard. Do not let anything distract you,” Chris’s father instructed. “Then think about what makes you happy.” My dad. My mom. Buddy, my pet dog. My friends and my home. Home. I want to go home. I thought. I really did.

I heard Chris and his father gasp. I opened my eyes and saw the same portal I saw in my closet. I smiled, waved my new friends goodbye, and ran through it.

When I opened my eyes, I saw my room. My cozy room. I was back home!
