Werewolves

“Bye!” I called after the car pulled out of the driveway.  Dad with my bigger brother William was going to his friends baby shower.  I was going to be home alone for at least 2 hours.  Dad finally thought I was old enough to stay alone.  After all, I’m 10.  But I was also scared.  It was the first time being home alone.

I walked inside the house and up to my room.  I love my room. It’s warm and cozy, and where I spend most of my time.  Anyway, I plunged in bed, and fell asleep.  Knock knock!

“Sophie! Come out.  Dinner,” Dad said.  I groaned.  I got out of bed and and stretched a bit.  I opened the door.  The weird part: I expected Dad to be smiling and wearing his normal purple shirt and jeans, but instead Dad was wearing black robes, a red sweatshirt, and sweatpants.  His hair was unusually messy, and there was a badge that said monster.

“Come on darling.  Your brother is waiting for you,” he said.  Darling? I thought.  Dad never calls me that.  I knew something was wrong, but I followed him anyway.

When I got to the dining room, I frowned.  William always kept the food ready on the table.  Instead, there was basically nothing there.  Just tablecloth and a vase of fake flowers.  Something fishy was going on.  William entered the room.

“Time for dinner!” Dad and William said as one.  Suddenly they started an unsettling transformation.  They grew gray and white fur, pointy ears, fangs, a snout, and paws.  They had become werewolves.  I woke up with a start.  The door bell was ringing.  I ran downstairs and burst open the main door.

“Dad! William! I missed you so much,” I said as I gave them a bear hug.

“You missed us? We’ve only been gone for 2 hours,” William said, a little shocked.  I blushed.  Dad chuckled and said, “We missed you too.  Time for dinner.”
